Polish refugees land in New Zealand
Over 800 Polish refugees arrived in Wellington in November 1944, seeking safety from war-torn Europe.
There were 733 children and 102 adults.
They had been sent to Russia Siberia and middle east before being shipped to New Zealand.
Russia sent 120000 polish to Iran when Germany invaded.
1.7million polish people were sent to labour camps in Siberia.
A camp for the children was made in Paihiatua Wairarapa which is in the lower North Island of New Zealand.
